
AIIA Signs Landmark MoU with General Insurance Council for Cashless Treatment Facility under 32 Insurance Companies

In a historic step towards strengthening the integration of Ayurveda into the mainstream health insurance ecosystem, the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, signed a Common Empanelment Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the General Insurance Council (GIC) on 10 February 2026.
The MoU was formally signed between Prof. (Vaidya) P. K. Prajapati, Director, All India Institute of Ayurveda, and Segar Sampathkumar, Director Health GI Council in the august presence of Prof. Bejon Kumar Misra, Chairman, Core Group of Experts on Ayush Health Insurance. The event marked the presence of Prof. (Dr.) Mahesh Vyas, Dean Ph.D; Prof.(Dr.) R.K Yadav, Dean PG; Dr Alka Kapoor, DMS and other senior faculty members of AIIA.
Prof. (Vd. ) P.K Prajapati, Director AIIA said, “With the signing of this agreement, AIIA has been empanelled with all 32 insurance companies under the General Insurance Council, enabling the provision of cashless treatment services to patients. “The Director thanked the Ministry of Ayush and his working team for the step taken and his confident that the initiative will help the patient at large.
Congratulating the AIIA Director, Prof. Bejon Kumar Misra, Chairman, Core Group of Experts on Ayush Health Insurance, said “This has happened for the first time in the country that an Ayush Institute has signed an MoU with General Insurance Council. The availability of cashless treatment facilities at AIIA is expected to substantially enhance patient access and affordability, expand outreach to a larger section of society, strengthen patient confidence, and reinforce institutional credibility.”
The initiative will also contribute to increased patient inflow, improved service utilization, and sustainable institutional growth.
Key Announcement
On the occasion, Prof. Bejon Kumar Misra, Chairman, Core Group of Experts on Ayush Health Insurance, reiterated a major initiative of the Ministry of AYUSH — the launch of a dedicated support system for insurance-related queries pertaining to Ayush treatments. For the first time in the country, the Ministry of AYUSH has introduced the Ayush Health Insurance Helpline:

The helpline aims to facilitate beneficiaries in resolving insurance-related concerns, promote awareness regarding Ayush insurance coverage, and ensure smoother access to entitled benefits.
What is All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA)
The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), established under the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, has been conceived as an apex institute for Ayurveda with the objective of creating synergy between traditional Ayurvedic wisdom and modern diagnostic and technological advancements. The Institute offers postgraduate and doctoral programmes in various disciplines of Ayurveda and is actively engaged in fundamental research, drug development, standardization, quality control, safety evaluation, and scientific validation of Ayurvedic medicines.
AIIA houses a 200-bed referral hospital equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic tools and techniques that support advanced clinical research, teaching, training, and tertiary-level patient care primarily through Ayurveda. The Institute comprises 25 specialty departments, 12 clinical units, and 8 interdisciplinary research laboratories, providing academic and research opportunities to PG and Ph.D. scholars every year. AIIA also hosts an International Collaborative Centre dedicated to the global promotion, collaboration, and research in Ayurveda.
What is General Insurance Council (GIC)
The General Insurance Council has been constituted under Section 64C of the Insurance Act, 1938, and has been functioning since 2001 under the aegis of the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI).
The insurance industry in India has undergone significant transformation since the establishment of IRDAI and continues to evolve in response to changing economic conditions, financial sector reforms, and growing risk management needs. In this dynamic environment, the General Insurance Council plays a pivotal role in aligning industry practices with regulatory reforms and safeguarding public interest.
The signing of this MoU represents a transformative milestone in advancing inclusive, integrative, and insurance-supported Ayurvedic healthcare in India, reinforcing the Government’s commitment to strengthening Ayush systems within the national healthcare framework.
