The Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS), New Delhi, hosted a three-day National Workshop on HPB Pathology: Whole Slide Imaging, Analysis and AI-based Utility for Diagnosis and Research, from 7–9 August 2026.

The workshop brought together experts in hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) pathology, digital pathology and artificial intelligence to provide participants with an integrated understanding of emerging technologies and their clinical applications. The programme included sessions on digital scanner workflow, AI fundamentals, hepatitis and cholestasis pathology, biliary and pancreatic neoplasms, HPB cytology, vascular and paediatric liver pathology, liver tumours and transplant pathology.

A highlight of the workshop was the 15th Dr. V. Ramalingaswami Oration, delivered by Dr. Gwyneth Soon, National University Hospital, Singapore, on “From pixels to precision: AI-driven digital pathology for MASLD/MASH grading and staging.”

The workshop also featured dedicated sessions on AI applications and clinical translation in HPB, followed by a hands-on session on AI in digital pathology, including whole-slide image exploration using Image/Fiji and interaction with AI tools using Google Colab.

The workshop concluded with discussions highlighting the growing role of digital pathology and AI in advancing diagnostic accuracy, research and clinical translation in HPB pathology.
