A team of Doctors at Cardiology department of RML Hospital Successfully performed third Heart Transplant. The recipient is a 26 year old female who was suffering from dilated cardiomyopathy and was under the cardiology team of hospital. The donor was a 24 year old and was admitted in PGI Chandigarh. The transplant team was headed by Dr Vijay Grover, Chief Operating Surgeon and Head of CTVS Department.
The whole process was coordinated by nodal officer of NOTTO (National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation) Dr Mahapatra and his team of transplant coordinators along with the team at PGI. The cardiac anaesthesia team was led by Dr Jaswinder, Dr Rohan and Dr Tanya Mittal and their residents. Rml’s perfusion team led by Mr Jagdish and Mr Anwar did a commendable job. The nursing officers led by SN Valsala, SN Srija and Sumer Singh along with technical staff led by Mr Ved Prakash and Phool Kumar rose to the occasion. As always it was a team effort by our CTVS team wherein Dr Palash went to Chandigarh to retrieve the donor heart. Dr Narender Singh Jhajhria, Director Professor, explanted the recipient’s diseased heart and did the implantation of the donor heart into the recipient. Director, MS and Dean also did encouragement and help.
The cardiology team led by Dr Ranjeet Nath and Dr Puneet Aggarwal and Dr Shivani Rao worked up this patient and are doing exemplary work in establishing a transplant programme in RML hospital , without a dedicated team transplant is just a dream.
