Elon Musk has warned that short form video platforms such as TikTok and Instagram Reels are gradually harming human attention spans and the ability to focus. He made the remarks during recent public discussions about technology, media consumption, and long-term cognitive health.
According to Musk, constant exposure to rapid fire videos trains the brain to seek quick dopamine rewards instead of sustained concentration. He said this shift makes it harder for people to engage in deep thinking, problem solving, and long form learning.
Musk explained that algorithm driven feeds encourage endless scrolling, which reduces patience for slower activities like reading, studying, or complex work. He has previously linked this trend to declining productivity and reduced creativity across society.
